1. Video Background and Transcript

Joanna is four years old.  Her home language is Spanish and both parents speak Spanish in the home. She has older siblings who often speak with her in English. This is Joanna’s first year in preschool. She attends a dual immersion preschool. Joanna is playing in the dramatic play area with two other children and the teacher.  They are playing with a stethoscope and listening to one another’s hearts. Since Joanna has had difficulty entering play with her peers who primarily speak English, the teacher is facilitating Joanna’s inclusion in play with this group. Transcript

3. Measures Reflected by the Evidence

The teacher initially used this clip to document Joanna’s English language development (ELD), however a good piece of evidence might address multiple measures. Rather than assigning a developmental level, this video clip could be evidence for the measures in this chart: Measures Reflected by the Evidence - Dramatic Play
